Our History

Imperial Institute of Higher EducationIIHE was established in 1996, starting its operations in a very modest scale, being associated with the prestigious University of Wales (UoW), U.K. in providing both undergraduate (B.Sc. Honours in Management) and post-graduate (MBA-Masters in Business Administration) level education. The association so far, has produced 600 B.Sc. graduates and over 500 MBA post-graduates. The majority of graduates completed their entire educational program in Sri Lanka, while a few did proceed to Wales, for their 3 rd year studies, pursuing the “Transfer Study” route. The IIHE and University of Wales association is the longest, between a private tertiary education institute in Sri Lanka and a foreign university of international repute.

IIHE in 2015, collaborated with the University of Salford, (UoS) Manchester, England to offer more diversified disciplines covering Accounting and Finance, Information Technology, Management of Tourism, in view of the expansion in the demand for skills in such disciplines. The University of Salford is the winner of the Times Business award for 2014

As IIHE enters into the 21 st year of continuous operations, the management team is pleased to announce its newest partner, the University of Western Australia- Perth, which is ranked among the first 100 best universities in the world. The first intake for UWA is scheduled for April 2017. This program is jointly marketed by Edlocate and IIHE.

During the past 20 years, IIHE has maintained a reputation for “Quality” in delivery of tertiary education. This was possible as IIHE is required to satisfy the rigorous demand of the Quality Assurance Agency of U.K. and the parent universities, UoW and UoS. Continuous evaluations are carried out by the universities to ensure that IIHE is conducting the programs in accordance with the agreed standards. At IIHE, the emphasis is on “Quality” in everything we do, and open opportunities for higher education to sync with our Mission to produce business leaders of future, which is increasingly sought by Sri Lankan corporate and SME sectors.

Dr Thilaka S Weerakoon, a senior academic and former Chairman/General Manager of several public corporations, and a person having experience of international operations in Hong Kong, provides the leadership as the Executive Director of Education at IIHE, to meet the stringent international educational standards and local requirements.
